Happy New Year !
My very best wishes to all of you for a good year in 2006. We have so much to be thankful for, don't we? Rich and I spent New Year's Eve out for dinner with friends and then on to their house for movies. It was relaxing and quiet, just the way we like it!
I want to share one of my favorite poems with you. Rich's grandmother sent this to all her grandchildren in her own writing, months before she died and it has remained in our memory ever since. After researching the internet, I found the correct title to be The Paradoxical Commandments by Dr. Kent M. Keith, written in 1968. Mother Teresa thought this poem was important enough to put up on the wall of her children's home in Calcutta! The printed version on the web is just a little different than what Grandma Chloe wrote but we choose to keep hers as our special keepsake.
People are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish motives,
Love them anyway.
If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
The biggest people with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest people with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for some underdogs anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Give the world the best you have and you will get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world your best anyway.
Isn't that FULL of advice on how to live, how to work, how to honor others? I just love this and it is my New Year gift to all of you!
